Different types of electricity generation require differing amounts of water. Except for photovoltaic solar and wind power, which require no water to produce energy.
However there is a substantial water requirement for all forms of electricity generation in making the raw materials and constructing and maintaining the plant. Thus although wind-power has a very low water requirement operationally, if it is mounted on a concrete or steel tower, many tonnes of water will have been required in its construction.
