Concerns about the global environment and sustainability are paramount and increase in magnitude every day. Historically there is a strong connection between environmental issues and technological solutions. Eco-innovation is a process of innovation that aims to benefit the environment as well as creating economic growth. Many businesses attempt to unite the two goals, but it's unclear exactly what is needed in order to achieve this. The book Eco-Innovation in Firms by Fernando Diaz Lopez of TNO bridges this gap. It helps businesses to translate the theory of innovation into practical organizational strategy. Diaz Lopez's Eco-Innovation in Firms offers, first and foremost, an analysis of what eco-innovation in business actually means.
It elaborates on the phenomenon of innovation dynamics in an industry or sector. Subsequently, using the chemical sector as an example, he looks at eco-innovation in this sector. The book closes with a methodology for adapting eco-innovation to businesses and assessing it. Around 70 businesses took part in Diaz Lopez's research, most of them businesses that he has advised on eco-innovation strategy since 2004. With the assistance of this book, businesses can find the answers to questions such as ‘What do I need in order to be able to eco-innovate?’, 'How can I adapt my business strategy to meet eco-innovation goals?’, and ‘What do I need in terms of personnel and resources?’ This book will be an invaluable resource for academics, researchers, practitioners, policy-makers and students with an interest in eco-innovation.
