Applications

Applications

Oilfield

The oilfield is the most standard form of application for AFC liquid storage tanks. Tanks used in this field are typically referred to as ‘frac’ tanks, the 500 barrel Frac Master being the industry benchmark. ‘Frac’ is an abbreviation for fractionation, a term that refers to an actions which occur when bringing a new well online or reworking an existing well to stimulate existing production. When an oil or gas reservoir is fractured it is injected with frac sand and brine water which are stored in frac tank. This allows oil or gas to flow into the well bore. AFC tanks can also be used to store crude, potable water, waste water, fuels, and chemicals needed on such sites. In order to provide larger volumes tanks can be connected to each other with 8” hoses for different jobs.

AFC equipment commonly used in oilfield application:

  • 410 BBL Double Wall
  • 500 BBL Flat Top (including flow-back, weir or gas-buster tanks)
  • 510 BBL Side Step
  • 510 BBL Single Step

AFC also has the ability to build specialized 'frac' tanks needed for different applications. Examples of these tanks are:

  • Weir Tanks (closed loop systems): are usually built with up to two interior walls and 13 ‘flip up’ lids, these tanks are designed to gather solids as fluids flow through them.
  • Flowback Tanks (gas busters): many different flowback designs are available. These tanks are designed to handle higher fluid speeds from frac jobs and hazardous gases from the fluids as they flow from the well bore. At the same time flowback tanks are also designed to vent sand.
  • Double Wall Tanks: Is a tank built within another tank. AFC double wall tanks are best used in environmentally sensitive areas as a wholesome alternative to open or lined mud or waste-water pits.

Environmental

The use of AFC tanks to contain fluid is one of the fastest growing needs for companies operating in sensitive environmental areas. Even in non-sensitive areas fluid containment and processing is becoming the norm. Some of these applications are listed below:

  • Bilge storage
  • Storm drain water separation Transformer (electrical) oil storage
  • Landfill runoff (leachate) filtering and storage
  • Fuel storage (self contained double wall)
  • Ethylene glycol (deicing agent) recovery and storage
  • Liquid fertilizer storage
  • Rain water capture / storage
  • Construction water storage; runoff filtering and storage
  • Slurry containment, storage and processing
  • Firefighting water storage
  • Fugitive dust control (e.g. controlling dust in restricted areas)

AFC equipment used in environmental applications includes:

  • 130 / 140 / 150 / 180 BBL vacuum trailers
  • 410 BBL Double Wall tanks
  • 500 or 510 BBL Flat Top, Side Step or Single Step tanks

Waste Management

Containment, storage, separation and transportation of solid and liquid waste products is yet another application which AFC tanks could be utilized in. To make it possible to properly and easily dispose of different waste products, the ‘weir-walled’ tank separates liquids from solids as they are pumped into the tank. The weir tank comes in many forms which are designed to fit specifications for controlling the respective elements. Standard features of these types of tanks include ‘closed’ flip-lid system to short-walled open-top designs. Further examples of these include:

  • Hauling liquid, semi-dry waste water residuals
  • Storage for lagoon dredging
  • Land application through subsurface injection or spreading
  • Landfill runoff (leachate) filtering and storage
  • Grease collection
  • Grease trap waste disposal
  • Slurry containment, storage and processing
  • Lagoon and digester cleanouts

AFC equipment used in waste management applications includes:

  • 130 / 140 / 180 / 200 BBL vacuum trailers

Construction & Mining

In the construction and the mining of quarries dealing with rock, gravel, sand and others solids, also including liquids, AFC provides storage tanks to separate and handle these different elements. Of their variety of uses some of them include storage of chemicals, portable water, and motor fuels needed in these projects. AFC utilizes a smooth and double wall design which meets the environmental standards required for these jobs. Some applicable applications are listed below:

  • Landfill runoff filtering and storage
  • Potable water storage
  • Fuel Storage (provided in a single or double wall design)
  • Rain / storm water capture / storage
  • Slurry containment, storage and processing
  • Separation of solids through shaker screens or weir walls

AFC equipment used in construction and mining applications:

  • 410 BBL Double Wall tanks
  • 500 or 510 BBL Flat Top, Single Step or Side Step tanks
  • With weir walls, a variety of level indicators, moisture detection and wireless telemetry
