Aker Clean Carbon is an internationally recognized global supplier of cost-effective CO2 capture technology.

The company offers amine-based post-combustion carbon capture solutions for coal and gas-fired power stations and other industrial flue gases.

Amine-based processes for CO2 capture are well established in the process industry. Aker Clean Carbon is developing and testing improved capture processes with the objective of applying these to a new, global market in order to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.

Aker Clean Carbon is a private company owned 50 per cent by Aker ASA and 50 per cent by Aker Solutions.

The company has invested significant amounts in developing its own carbon capture technology and know-how. ACC is part of Aker, and has a partnership agreement with Aker Solutions.

History
Aker Clean Carbon was established by Aker and Aker Solutions in 2007 as a vehicle to accelerate and commercialise Aker’s efforts to develop CCS management. The company’s origins lie in Aker Solutions, where engineers worked on carbon capture technology since the early 1990s.

Solvit Carbon Process

Aker Clean Carbon is leading SOLVit – a major scientific research and development programme to produce improved, cost-effective amines for the CO2 capture process. This eight-year NOK 317 million programme was launched in 2008 together with Sintef, an independent research organisation, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology NTNU.

Carbon Capture with Bio Energy

Aker Clean Carbon has developed a novel concept of combining the CO2 capture process with a bio energy plant, providing steam and electricity to the capture facility. The concept makes the capture plant independent from the fossil fuel-fired power plant, and increases the total CO2 capture by catching the CO2 emmitted from the bio fuel burner as well.
