Modern Water’s Monitoring division has developed some of the world’s most advanced systems for monitoring water quality. We provide market-leading toxicity monitoring systems, trace metal and environmental monitoring systems. The range includes systems for portable, online, and laboratory use. All systems are easy to use and can be operated by technicians anywhere in the world. Our toxicity monitoring products, Microtox and Microtox CTM, detect toxins in water using bioluminescence technology and immediately warn of suspicious changes. The trace metal PDV and OVA product ranges use voltammetry to identify and quantify trace metals in water, soil, food and industrial streams. The environmental range monitors contaminants such as pesticides and petroleum in water, soil and sediment. Benefits of our technologies include quick and reliable results, early warning of toxic events, low capital and operating costs, protection against environmental pollution, stand-alone or integrated.
WHO ARE WE

WHO ARE WE

Modern Water is expert in the design, development and provision of analytical instruments and technologies for monitoring toxicity, trace metals and environmental contaminants in water, soil, food and industrial process streams.

The product range includes products that are recognised across the world as market leaders in their specific applications. This includes Microtox – recognised as the Gold Standard for toxicity testing; OVA and PDV – robust on-line and portable trace metal technology used and installed in more than thirty countries; and EnSys, RapidAssay, EnviroGard, Quickchek, Multisensor, - used extensively to provide reliable detection of a range of specific environmental contaminants.

Applications

Applications

Wastewater

Increasingly stringent regulations demand cleaner wastewater discharges to both sewer and watercourses, demanding greater investment in systems to monitor, treat and remove pollutants prior to discharge.

Real time monitoring is complementary to these treatment systems, helping to ensure regulatory compliance and minimising the risk of fines being levied by regulatory bodies. Real time monitoring allows wastewater to be re-processed for prior to discharge if concentrations of potential pollutants approach regulatory levels. Online monitoring of discharges also benefits process control and cost savings by increasing the efficiency of the treatment process.

Modern Water offers real time online, monitoring solutions to ensure regulatory compliance. Examples of our wastewater and industrial effluent monitoring solutions are illustrated above.

River Water

River Water

Monitoring of river water is essential to maintain water quality. Human activities and products are almost exclusively responsible for pollution. Industrial sites, urban infrastructure and development, agriculture, transport, and deliberate or accidental pollution all adversely affect river water quality. Geology also plays a significant role with naturally occurring metals released into river water during geological activity or adverse weather such as rains and storms.

Good river water quality is essential to maintain the biological health and diversity of species in our rivers. Fish are known to accumulate heavy metals to toxic levels if present in their habitat and since many rivers are also used as sources for human drinking water heavy metal concentrations are an important factor in determining treatment processing and costs.

Government Environmental Protection Agencies are addressing river water quality and setting stringent regulatory standards. Real time monitoring helps ensure compliance by allowing rapid identification of pollution sources. In turn this allows rapid treatment or removal before the pollution becomes a threat to either aquatic or human health.

Modern Water provides online, laboratory and portable solutions for real time monitoring of heavy metals in river water. Our experience has resulted in the development of an unrivalled range of monitoring technologies, examples of which are listed above.

Drinking Water

Drinking Water

The arsenic concentration of drinking water is a concern to many countries around the world where this poisonous element occurs naturally. The reduction of metals in water can be achieved either by dilution with another water source with a low arsenic concentration or by treatment to remove the arsenic. Both of these methods require constant supervision to ensure compliance with regulations and to to ensure the process is operated efficintly. Only the online monitoring of the target metal can ensure and prove compliance.

Modern Water's OVA series of online analysers can measure a range of metals to ensure compliance with W.H.O. and local standards for the concentrations of heavy metals in drinking water.
