Desotec Activated Carbon is a young and innovative company, ISO 9001-2008 certified, specialised in purification techniques on the basis of activated carbon. Both the number of staff members and our turnover have experienced a spectacular growth since 2000. The secret of our success is our vision of customer service.
The activities of Desotec are grouped into three categories:
Production and delivery of activated carbon
We offer you the most suitable type of activated carbon for any application. In order to be able to meet all your demands we constantly develop new products. Thanks to our five warehouses we are able to deliver the right material at any time from stock throughout Europe.
Design, sale and rental of activated carbon-based filters
In view of the purification of liquids and gases we develop and build tailor-made filters. We also have the largest fleet of mobile filters in Europe. Renting a filter from Desotec is for many customers the most comfortable and least expensive solution.
Return and reactivation of spent activated carbon
The final element of our overall package of services is the return of spent activated carbon. Desotec has the necessary permits for this type of activity as well as for the international transport of the materials if required. Reactivation of spent carbon takes place in our high-technological reactivation facility in Roeselare – the only one in Flanders.
1990: Founded by Joost Desmet and Bart and Peter Sobry. Initially Desotec designed and built different types of installations for water treatment and silt processing.
1995: Desotec specialises in activated carbon with the focus on environmentally technical applications for the purification of liquids and gases.
In order to stimulate the sales of activated carbon the company starts developing tailor-made fixed activated carbon filters and interchangeable mobile filter systems for rent. Today Desotec has the largest fleet of mobile activated carbon filters in Europe.
1998: Desotec develops Oxycon®, a hybrid technology whereby the activated carbon filters are aerated. Within this context the company is nominated for the Filtration and Separation Product Achievement Award.
2003: After several years of investments in new warehouses, a specialised lab and production installations such as sieves, grinders and impregnation equipment Desotec starts with the construction of its own environmentally friendly reactivation furnace to reactivate spent activated carbon for reuse. This oven is unique in Flanders.
2006: Desotec constructs a new plant with over 5,000m² of storage space and a special zone for the handling of activated carbon.
In addition to the reactivation oven the company constructs a completely new office building.
Desotec establishes Desotec Polska with production facilities and offices in Gdynia (near Gdansk).
2009: Desotec builds a 2nd reactivation furnace, with more capacity, more service!
But this is not all. Further investments are done in the expansion of the fleet of mobile filters, also for the treatment of biogas, and in a special designed truck for the exchange of activated carbon in fixed filters, discharging and loading with the same truck.

Mobicon®The Mobicon® filter is an interchangeable filter for industrial applications such as wastewater treatment, groundwater remediation, leachate treatment and purification of chemicals, food, drinking water etc. |

Activated Carbon For Gases & AirFor the purification of air and gases we mostly use extruded (pressed pellets) or coarse-grained (granular) activated carbon. |

ReactivationWhen activated coal is saturated (or the intended aim of the treatment has been reached), it can be reactivated to a reusable qualitative product. Reactivation is done by heating the spent activated carbon to 900°C. During this process the adsorbed organic substances are thermally destroyed. |
