Company History

Traditionally, the water industry has been fragmented, populated by small companies with niche specialties. Over the last century, water treatment companies built their businesses around specialized technologies and small product lines, then often focused on one particular industry or application.

Many Suppliers.  As a result, customers had to deal with multiple companies in order to amass and coordinate the products, technologies, and services and technologies to build a single water treatment system.

Most companies in the business could not create the economies of scale required to bring customers the range of solutions nor the depth of support they needed.  Accountability for work and product quality often got lost in the process.

And we saw a lack of intellectual collaboration and teamwork within the industry. As the world’s water problems mounted, few new solutions were being developed.

USFilter is Born. In July 1990, Richard J. Heckmann and a group of investors envisioned a new way of handling the business of water.

They would put together a global team of water and wastewater specialists, equip them with the best technologies, and provide deep financial resources. To solve the biggest challenges in water treatment, they united the top brands in the water industry, including Continental, Arrowhead, Ionpure, Envirex, Wallace and Tiernan, Zimpro, Illinois Water Treatment,  Permutit, and more. USFilter was born.

Under the same roof, these companies helped position USFilter as the powerhouse in the municipal, institutional, and industrial water markets. By consolidating previously separate water treatment companies, USFilter not only achieved operating efficiencies, but lowered costs, accelerated construction times and vastly improved accountability.

The Market Leader.  As the 21st Century began, USFilter had become a world-leading water and wastewater treatment company, more than twice the size of its next largest competitor.

And in August, 2004, USFilter became part of the Siemens family of companies. The German-based world leader in engineering and automation purchased USFilter for $993.0 million and positioned it as the cornerstone for the new Siemens Water Technologies global business.

With thousands of customers in every state and Canada, and a growing client base in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia,  The employee force is about 5,900, based at 150 plants, and offices on six continents.

A Culture of Communication. But our strategy was not just to be bigger, but better. Through an unending process of integration, teamwork, communication and customer focus, we created a breadth and depth of offering never seen before in the water treatment market.

By partnering with Siemens Water Technologies, customers now have access to the complete range of water management technologies and services--from treatability studies and system design, to equipment supply, installation, startup, parts, and a variety of services including temporary and emergency mobile water treatment, activated carbon and ion exchange resin services, service deionization,  waste recycling, and build-own-operate.

Cities, industries, businesses, and institutions worldwide now rely on Siemens Water Technologies to help them solve their most critical water challenges.
