An annual production of approximately 10 million pump units makes Grundfos one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers. The pumps are manufactured by Group production companies in Brasil, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States.
Grundfos’ products are primarily sold through Grundfos’ own national companies. Grundfos is represented by sales companies in all parts of the world, and in addition, local distributors in a number of countries also sell Grundfos pumps.
The Grundfos Group is a private company owned by the Poul Due Jensen Foundation.
The foundation’s main objective is to expand and develop the Group, primarily by reinvesting own, realised funds, and to make sure the Grundfos Group remains an independent company in accordance with the founder’s wish.
The daily task of the Grundfos pumps is to provide water in an effective and reliable manner, whether water for human consumption, for irrigation of fields and watering of animals, for industrial processes, heating and cooling of buildings or wastewater discharge.
In addition to pumps and pump systems, Grundfos develops, produces and sells electric motors and high-technology electronic equipment to make the pumps “intelligent’, increase their capacity and minimise their power consumption.
The Group is dedicated to continued research in new materials and processes in order to be able to introduce new, groundbreaking pumps and pump systems that satisfy market requirements to efficient, reliable and energy-saving plants.
Quality is key in all Grundfos products. This implies a focus on construction, design and choice of materials and production processes. A high degree of own production ensures high productivity, a healthy work environment and consideration for the external environment.
The most important resource in the Grundfos Group is its employees, and their knowledge and commitment. Therefore, the Group aims to provide the employees with further training and to create an inspiring environment that promotes the development and production of new products with an increased utility value and high quality for the customers.
Products
With an annual production of more than 16 million pump units, Grundfos is one of the world's leading pump manufacturers. Circulator pumps for heating and air-conditioning and other centrifugal pumps for industry, water supply, waste water and dosing are the major products. Today, Grundfos is the world's largest manufacturer of circulator pumps, covering approximately 50 per cent of the world market for these pumps.
In addition to pumps, Grundfos manufactures both norm and submersible motors for the pumps, and motors are also sold as separate merchandising. Furthermore, Grundfos develops and sells state-of-the-art electronics for monitoring, controls for pumps and other systems, and the products BioBooster and NoNox which are part of the company’s new business activities.
Applications
Circulator pumps are used for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning in private houses, office buildings, hotels, etc.
In industry the pumps are used in processes as well as in plant maintenance and as important built-in components in OEM equipment (Original Equipment Manufacturers). In the water-supply and waste-water segment Grundfos offers a wide range of reliable pumps for e.g. irrigation, green houses and golf courses, for municipal, private and industrial water supply as well as sewage applications. Grundfos also produces pumps for dosing purposes in and around e.g. water treatment plants.
Global extension
The Grundfos Group is represented by 75 companies in 42 countries. In addition, Grundfos products are merchandised by distributors in a large number of countries.
History
Grundfos was established in 1945 by the late Poul Due Jensen. At first he gave his company the name of 'Bjerringbro Pressestøberi og Maskinfabrik' (Bjerringbro Die-Casting and Machine Factory) and not until 1967, after several changes of names, did the company get its present name, GRUNDFOS. Poul Due Jensen’s son, Niels Due Jensen, took over the position as Group President in 1978 and has been Chairman of the board since 2003.
Ownership
The Poul Due Jensen Foundation was established as a self-governing institution in 1975. Today, the foundation owns about 85.1 per cent, staff about 2.9 per cent and the founder's family about 12 per cent of the shares in Grundfos Holding AG. The aim of the foundation is to consolidate and expand the economic basis of the continued development of the Grundfos Group. The capital and the profits of the foundation are to be utilized solely for the aim of the foundation and the profits are to be re-invested in the Grundfos companies.
Values
We sum up our values with the words: BE responsible>THINK ahead>INNOVATE. It is our responsibility, our foresight and our focus on creating ground-breaking solutions and ideas that have made us one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers.
Innovation and research
In order to maintain a leading position, Grundfos attaches great importance to research and development. In 2006 the Group invested DKK 560m in the area.
At Grundfos’ Business Development Centre (BDC) in Bjerringbro there is constant focus on expanding the company’s existing business areas and improving the products, e.g. in order to become even more energy efficient.
Besides the existing business areas which BDC deals with, Grundfos New Business develops new business areas which all deal with sustainable processes and technologies.

Multistage Centrifugal Pumps (CR/CRE/CRI/CRN)It is an idea that is as revolutionary as it is simple: take the ever-popular CR pump and make it bigger – much bigger. The 75 kW CR150 is Grundfos’ answer to the growing demand for larger pumping solutions. It has exactly the same benefits you know from conventional CR pumps – reliability, modularity, efficiency – and twice the power. This giant can take the place of two pumps with all the cost benefits that implies. |
