Pacific Pyrolysis Pty Limited has an exclusive license to exploit the proven BEST Energies slow pyrolysis technology in the Asia Pacific region through commercial deployment to solve a number of the sustainability issues facing businesses. The technology converts non food biomass into renewable energy and a proprietary biochar called Agrichar, that has been proven by independent trials to increase food production and sequester carbon over long periods of time.
About Us

About Us

Pacific Pyrolysis Pty Ltd has developed, and is commercialising, slow pyrolysis technology to deliver waste to energy and biochar solutions. Pacific Pyrolysis technology is unique in that it holistically combines local solutions to sustainability and market issues through:

  • Generating renewable, distributed energy;
  • Mitigating greenhouse gases and sequestering carbon;
  • Recycling carbon and nutrients back to agricultural land;
  • Increasing the sustainability of agricultural production through enhancing
  • soil health, hence improving food security;
  • Improving land use outcomes through minimising urban waste; and
  • Meeting strict environmental standards, ensuring air quality

The company owns 100% of the intellectual property, global development and commercialisation rights of the technology including the integrated pyrolysis demonstration plant located at Somersby.

Local Technical Solution to Global Sustainability Issues

Local Technical Solution to Global Sustainability Issues

Image

The Pacific Pyrolysis technology platform is a fundamental example of the delivery of a local technical solution to local manifestations of global sustainability issues for organisations and governments. A new era of low‐emission, low‐impact technology is expected to come of age over the next two‐three decades in addition to greater utilisation of known technologies, which have lower emission impact. The demand for clean technology solutions to problems has become a business mainstream activity. Solutions that can be deployed repeatedly across multiple sites benefit both the technology provider and the customer. Strong demand for such solutions exists from both private and public sector organisations, especially if the local deployment of a technical solution can be completed with:

  • A relatively low capital cost;
  • A good internal rate of return to equity investors in the projects concerned;
  • Successful resolution of issues or problems for the organisation(s) concerned; and
  • Development of a project solution, followed by execution and operation inside a reasonable timeframe.

It has become evident that a key to technological and business success in this space will be to deliver local solutions to companies and organisations which are impacted on multiple sites or in multiple business areas by the same or similar global issues such as emissions, energy supply, waste disposal, poor soil health, etc.

Biochar as a Green Fuel

Biochar as a Green Fuel

Biochar produced from the Pacific Pyrolysis process can also be utilised as a green fuel and in some cases a metallurgical reductant. Biochar produced from softwood increased its calorific value from 18 MJ/kg to 31 MJ/kg. The char can be then be pelletised resulting in pellets with an energy density of 24 MJ/m3, compared to the 13 MJ/m3 energy density of cold pelleted softwood sawdust. This has significant implications on shipping costs per MJ ...

Carbon Sequestration

Carbon Sequestration

There is a proliferation of projects and technologies seeking to reduce carbon emissions, however biochar is one of only a handful of technologies that can remove carbon from the atmosphere.  Other technologies in this vein include carbon capture and storage, forestry and other soil carbon practices such as no-till farming.
