Risktec was formed in 2001 with the specific aim of helping clients to manage health, safety, security, environmental and business risk. Initially Risktec was part-owned by the Nutec group. Falck invested in Nutec in 2004 and acquired full control in 2007. At this time it was agreed that Risktec would buy-out the Falck shareholding in Risktec, creating a fully employee-owned company.
The company has grown strongly, establishing offices in the UK, Middle East and North America. In 2010 Risktec was ranked as the 93rd fastest-growing private company in the UK according to the Real Business Hot 100 list, with an almost 50% compound annual growth rate over the last 4 years. Risktec was also ranked number 80 in the Sunday Times International Track 100 of British firms with the fastest-growing overseas sales, achieving over 50% compound annual growth rate over the last two years. Risktec is the only risk management consulting company on either list.
To supplement Risktec's consulting, training and education services, Risktec acquired the ASTEC Group in 2012 to be able to provide specialist engineering and safety associates to work on short or long-term assignments at client locations around the world.
Risktec consultants are highly qualified and experienced and come from a wide range of backgrounds, including engineering and science disciplines, information technology, operations and management. They are high calibre and motivated professionals, with a clear focus on meeting clients' expectations.
Experienced management team members and senior consultants assure technical expertise across our services, and have established reputations with major blue chip clients.
Our consultants are fully empowered to deliver all aspects of projects and our employee ownership model promotes stability in our workforce. We support our people with a training and development programme, which builds on technical skills and industry focus, as well as relationship and project management skills.
Our independence is achieved through our selected range of services, our legal structure and our company values. As a wholly employee-owned company, our services are delivered by our shareholders who have a vested interest in maintaining long-term client relationships. We have no shareholders with competing corporate goals to satisfy, enabling us to offer truly impartial advice.
The key values underpinning the culture at Risktec are:
We empower everyone in Risktec to perform their work to the best of their ability in a supportive, open and trusting environment. We firmly believe that most value is added through teamwork, both within Risktec and when working with clients.
We believe our business must be sustainable, which can only be achieved by being responsive and flexible to our clients' needs, delivering solutions, and acting with honesty, integrity and consistently high ethical standards.
Our Solutions Approach
We are committed to providing clients with complete and pragmatic solutions, built on a sound understanding of the client's business. We focus on clarifying the underlying problems at the heart of any issues, before proposing a solution. We present our recommendations in a clear and straightforward way.
Throughout a project we work with our clients to ensure ownership of the solution. We believe this philosophy leads to mutually trusting relationships with our clients.
Our Advisory Approach
We listen and work collaboratively with the client, taking an open, proactive and objective approach. Our collective, hard-earned experience of working across a wide range of different industries, environments and cultures, means we consider all factors and are able to deliver solutions for risk improvement that meet each client's unique needs.
We highlight the positives, but also do not shy away from identifying weaknesses and difficult issues. In this way we help clients to objectively understand their risks and the quality of their systems for managing them. We aim to advise for the long-term, throughout the facility life-cycle, business expansion or change initiative.
Our Technical Approach
Our services recognise that controlling risk requires understanding engineered and technological systems, management systems and organisational factors, as well as cultural and behavioural issues.
Our deliverables range from assessments for specific business risk issues, through formal HSSE/safety cases for large industrial complexes, to entire management system documentation, training and implementation support.
Fire, Explosion And Toxic Gas Hazard Analysis
Our services include: Site based surveys or 'walkdowns' using checklists. Physical effects analysis - screening analysis using empirical models, and detailed analysis using CFD models. Analysis of response and vulnerability of systems and structures. Fire protection system assessments. Development of risk reduction strategies. Assessment and development of escape, evacuation, rescue and recovery plans.
Hazard identification is the first and, in many ways, the most important step in a risk assessment. If a hazard is not identified, it is unlikely to be managed effectively. Risktec provides a full portfolio of services for the formal, systematic and comprehensive identification of hazards: HAZOPs, HAZIDs. Plant 'walkdowns' and surveys. FMEA and FMECA. Hazard registers and fault schedules. Risk ranking and risk assessment. Incident analysis and human ...
SkillsXP is a competence information tool for managing skills, work experience, qualifications and training. HSSE-critical information identified by the Tripod and Bow-tie methodologies can be captured in SkillsXP to assure the ongoing competence of people who are assigned HSSE-critical tasks. Risktec consultants are specialists in competency management and the use of SkillsXP to support the development of a complete competency and training management ...
BowTieXP - New Risk Management
The complete bow-tie methodology, in which Risktec consultants are leading practitioners, ensures that risk assessments become cost-effective methods of managing HSSE, rather than just a means of satisfying the regulator. The bow-tie diagram is an effective graphical display of risk control. It is readily understood at all levels in an organisation, from senior managers and operations personnel, to regulators and members of the public.
Training and Education
Risktec is recognised as a leading provider of professional risk training and education in health, safety, security, environmental (HSSE) and business risk assessment and management. We actively share the knowledge that underpins our consulting services and help clients to build-in resilience to the risks they face by focusing on the competency of their people.
Face-to-face (F2F) learning is provided to groups of 5 or more students from the same organisation. Our clients find this approach very effective because the training can be focused on the organisation's specific type of operations ( e.g. HAZOP Training or QRA training), risk assessment practices and personnel development needs. Individuals or small groups, i.e. fewer than 5 people, are catered for via Risktec's distance learning programmes.
