LG Sonic Algae Control. LG Sound is the leading international provider of innovative ultrasound systems that reduce and control the formation of algae, biofilm and some other micro-organisms in all situations where water is stored. Many of the traditional methods to fight algae are either insufficient, cumbersome, environmentally unfriendly, or all of these.
About Us

About Us

Image

LG Sound was founded in the Netherlands to develop, produce and market the newest generation of ultrasonic algae control units worldwide.

LG Sound is focused on remaining on the edge of the market with their technology and invests heavily in improving our existing solutions and developing new ones. LG Sound believes in constantly expanding their knowledge on water quality and ultrasonic techniques. With a better understanding of all biological and chemical processes in watery ecosystems, LG Sound aims to keep innovating the product to our customers needs. Besides that, LG Sound offers biological and chemical knowledge to all of our customers before and after sales.

At the same time, LG Sound believes in running the company in an efficient and professional manner, improving the supply flow and adding value for our partners and distributors.

For our research and development, certified biologists work intensively together with our technical specialists and market experts. In addition, we cooperate closely with the best universities to ensure we have access to all the relevant techniques and expertise. Some of the universities with whom LG Sound cooperates in research are:

  • University of Portsmouth (UK)
  • University of Catania (Italy)
  • Universität für Bodenkultur Wien (Austria)
  • University of Amsterdam – VU (Amsterdam)

The production of the components that make up our devices takes place in various parts of the world in order to fit best with our objectives. After a thorough quality/performance inspection they are shipped to our assembly plant in the Netherlands, where the final products are assembled by a knowledgeable team of qualified and experienced product assembly professionals.

We believe quality is the foundation of all our activities and our entire production and distribution process is built around this. No product ever leaves our building without having passed our three key test procedures successfully. This allows us to offer extended guarantees and to always comply with the highest quality standards.

LG Sounds’ network comprises distributors in, amongst others, the United States, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, Canada, Brazil, and Cyprus.

Innovation based on knowledge

is not only our slogan, it is our goal. By constantly innovating our product range and expanding our knowledge, we aim to keep our products and support to the highest standards possible so we can always meet to our clients expectations. In order to reach these goals, LG Sound keeps innovating, as you can read below. Do you want to keep updated on our progress? Please subscribe to our newsletter.

Irrigation Water Treatment

The LG Sonic technology provides a solution to control algae growth in water reservoirs without maintenance or chemicals so clogging of pumps, filters and sprinklers is being reduced.

Controls algae

Algae growth in water reservoirs can be controlled without chemicals or labor with the LG Sonic® technology. The sound signals produced by the LG Sonic® technology is so strong that it can even control algae in reservoirs with a low retention time.

Algae Control in Aquaculture

Aquaculture, or aqua farming, is the cultivation of aquatic organisms such as fish or shrimps in a controlled environment. Where this happens in a closed water container algae may occur that pollute the water and may damage the organisms grown.

Golf Course Pond

Controls algae in golf course ponds without expensive chemical treatments or time consuming manual labor
Golf courses should be maintained often and kept in perfect condition to offer golfers an optimal golf experience. A part of the golf course are the ponds on this area. Water in these ponds is often stagnant and thus sensitive to algal growth. Algae in a golf course pond make the water look unappealing and thereby reduce the total impression of the golf course itself. Furthermore maintaining these ponds can be a tiresome task because chemicals are not desirable and other water treatment methods are often cumbersome or just not sufficient

Reduce Biofilm Formation

In many industrial or professional applications where water is being stored, biofilm may grow. The growth of biofilm can damage the installations and reduce efficiency of the circuit. A biofilm can grow certain substrates which can be found in water.
When temperatures are high, for example in cooling towers, a matrix of different micro-  organisms such as bacteria, fungi, algae can grow very rapidly causing the formation of a biofilm on certain surfaces submerge in water. During the formation of this biofilm, certain micro organisms starts producing extra cellular polymeric substances (EPS) which reinforce the biofilm structure.

Algae Control in Drinking Water Treatment Plant

LG Sonic algae control products control and prevent growth of cyanobacteria, biofilm and filamentous bacteria in drinking water tanks. Cyanobacteria and filamentous bacteria can produce toxins, geosmins and MIB which give a bad taste and smell to the water or potentially cause diseases. With the presence of organic compounds to the water like algae and biofilm, chlorination often results in the formation of THM’s.

LG Sonic controls the formation of these compounds without chemicals preventing problems with the taste of the water and optimizing the water treatment process.

The LG Sonic® solution consists of different devices, which are all made to fit it’s own purpose. Although all LG Sonic® devices have different strengths and are made for different appliances, the technique relies on the same basis.  Click the play button to watch a 3.38 min video.

The ultrasound waves are produced in our control box (green). Our LG Sonic® transducer (black) emits sound waves (red) through the water in a radius of nearly 180°. Algae, within the range of the transducer, will start oscillating at the frequencies of the sound waves. When brought in resonance an algal cell will not be able to sustain some compartments within the cell, these effected compartments can damage or even rupture, causing severe stress to the algal cell. The exact reaction of an algal cell to ultrasound depends on the type of algae. A very common differentiation between algae is between green algae and blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria.

Image

Green algae share many characteristics with plant cells. As in plants, green algae posses a vacuole surrounded by a tonoplast, a cell membrane attached to a cell wall and chlorophyll, in charge of photosynthesis. As an effect of ultrasound, the tonoplast of green algae can rupture, releasing the contents of the vacuole to the inner cell. Besides this, the adhesion of the cell membrane and the cell wall can damage.

Blue-green algae are in fact one of the oldest bacteria. These bacteria share some characteristics with a plant cell as well. For example, the capability to produce energy by absorbing light, called photosynthesis. Blue-green algae are capable of travelling through the water vertically due to their possession of gas-vesicles. The ultrasound waves from the LG Sonic® rupture these gas vesicles, making the blue-green algae sink to the bottom and possibly die by lack of (sun)light.
