Golf Course Pond
Controls algae in golf course ponds without expensive chemical treatments or time consuming manual labor
Golf courses should be maintained often and kept in perfect condition to offer golfers an optimal golf experience. A part of the golf course are the ponds on this area. Water in these ponds is often stagnant and thus sensitive to algal growth. Algae in a golf course pond make the water look unappealing and thereby reduce the total impression of the golf course itself. Furthermore maintaining these ponds can be a tiresome task because chemicals are not desirable and other water treatment methods are often cumbersome or just not sufficient

Reduce Biofilm Formation
In many industrial or professional applications where water is being stored, biofilm may grow. The growth of biofilm can damage the installations and reduce efficiency of the circuit. A biofilm can grow certain substrates which can be found in water.
When temperatures are high, for example in cooling towers, a matrix of different micro- organisms such as bacteria, fungi, algae can grow very rapidly causing the formation of a biofilm on certain surfaces submerge in water. During the formation of this biofilm, certain micro organisms starts producing extra cellular polymeric substances (EPS) which reinforce the biofilm structure.

Algae Control in Drinking Water Treatment Plant
LG Sonic algae control products control and prevent growth of cyanobacteria, biofilm and filamentous bacteria in drinking water tanks. Cyanobacteria and filamentous bacteria can produce toxins, geosmins and MIB which give a bad taste and smell to the water or potentially cause diseases. With the presence of organic compounds to the water like algae and biofilm, chlorination often results in the formation of THM’s.
LG Sonic controls the formation of these compounds without chemicals preventing problems with the taste of the water and optimizing the water treatment process.

The LG Sonic® solution consists of different devices, which are all made to fit it’s own purpose. Although all LG Sonic® devices have different strengths and are made for different appliances, the technique relies on the same basis. Click the play button to watch a 3.38 min video.
The ultrasound waves are produced in our control box (green). Our LG Sonic® transducer (black) emits sound waves (red) through the water in a radius of nearly 180°. Algae, within the range of the transducer, will start oscillating at the frequencies of the sound waves. When brought in resonance an algal cell will not be able to sustain some compartments within the cell, these effected compartments can damage or even rupture, causing severe stress to the algal cell. The exact reaction of an algal cell to ultrasound depends on the type of algae. A very common differentiation between algae is between green algae and blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria.
Green algae share many characteristics with plant cells. As in plants, green algae posses a vacuole surrounded by a tonoplast, a cell membrane attached to a cell wall and chlorophyll, in charge of photosynthesis. As an effect of ultrasound, the tonoplast of green algae can rupture, releasing the contents of the vacuole to the inner cell. Besides this, the adhesion of the cell membrane and the cell wall can damage.
Blue-green algae are in fact one of the oldest bacteria. These bacteria share some characteristics with a plant cell as well. For example, the capability to produce energy by absorbing light, called photosynthesis. Blue-green algae are capable of travelling through the water vertically due to their possession of gas-vesicles. The ultrasound waves from the LG Sonic® rupture these gas vesicles, making the blue-green algae sink to the bottom and possibly die by lack of (sun)light.
