Inspiration is how our leaders will communicate to the building industry and society, the reasons why we must reach net zero waste by 2030, sparking genuine lifetime commitments, for sustainable development. While motivation is also important, it thrives on a short timeline, generating actions for prompt reward or benefit. The distinction between motivation and inspiration is important. For ideas to develop into actions with lasting impacts, or cause a paradigm shift in how we value resources, leaders must inspire, not simply motivate.
In 2030, the building industry will look back upon its success, at having achieved net zero waste, and the initiatives inspiring its paradigm shift.
Science-in-Architecture is an ambitious education concept introduced in 2011 by the Construction Resource Initiatives Council, with the goal of making sustainability, truly sustainable.
Inspired by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada's 'Art in Architecture', Science-in Architecture is the principal initiative of the non-profit, non-partisan CRI Council, to meet the objectives of the organization, which are: Research, education and advocacy of resource efficiency, reducing the negative environmental, economical and social impacts associated with excessive resource consumption and poor building or waste management practices.
As an action and experienced based organization, the CRI Council does not only consider the various resource issues and their environmental impacts, but also the strategies and tools to effectively address these issues.
While our concept alone has received important positive feedback, and progressed considerably from its introduction, we recognize that the success of the initiative will hinge on the consideration of numerous factors, and collaboration from the widest possible array of stakeholders.
Thus, as the CRI Council moves forward to the next phase of its work, we are pleased to invite leaders and innovators from all building sectors and levels of governments, media, insurance, educational institutions, etc., to come together, in our first international workshop. Participants can expect to collaborate in a safe, encouraging environment supported by a design charrette type framework. They will have the opportunity to explore new paths, on their own quest to sustainable development.
At this unique event, leaders and innovators, who would typically not find themselves on common grounds, will benefit from a shared knowledge and creativity, to progress, build relationship of trust and work together.
Keynote Speaker: Arab Hoballah, Chief Sustainable Consumption UNEP/DTI Preliminary agenda provided separately
