Paris -- Veolia Water subsidiary Veolia Water Japan recently won three O&M contracts to provide water and wastewater services for 1,215,000 people in Japan.
Veolia Water—the only private foreign company to have won public utility concessions in Japan since 2002—has now strengthened its position by successfully bidding on the operation and maintenance (O&M) contracts for two treatment plants, in Hiroshima and Kyoto.
Veolia Water Japan has been operating the facilities since 2006 and 2009, respectively, and has now extended the contracts with a four-year renewal to provide wastewater services for 649,000 people in parts of Hiroshima and a three-year renewal covering wastewater services for 51,000 people in parts of Kyoto.
Veolia Water Japan has also won a five-year O&M contract involving all facilities used to treat drinking water for 515,000 people in Matsuyama, on the southern island of Shikoku. It is Veolia Water's first drinking water contract for a Japanese city.
The three contracts represent total revenue of €49 million over their duration and are due to begin in the second quarter of 2012.
