Researchers QUANTIFY climate impact of transport systems
EU-funded researchers have issued a report estimating the impact of road, aircraft and shipping emissions on the Earth`s atmosphere. The report is part of the QUANTIFY (`Quantifying the climate impact of global and European transport systems`) project, which has received EUR 8.39 million in financial support under the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). The QUANTIFY partners are seeking to work out the current and future climate impact of European and international transport systems. Emissions caused by traffic constitute a huge part of the air pollution in the EU and across the globe and are an ... |

A hard rain`s gonna fall
Analysis shows climate change to yield more extreme rainfall. Heavier rainstorms lie in our future. That`s the clear conclusion of a new MIT and Caltech study on the impact that global climate change will have on precipitation patterns. But the increase in extreme downpours is not uniformly spread around the world, the analysis shows. While the pattern is clear and consistent outside of the tropics, climate models give conflicting results within the tropics and more research will be needed to determine the likely outcomes in tropical regions. Overall, previous studies have shown that average ... |
