Investors managing US$2.3tn call on congress to tackle global climate change
More than 50 leading investors, including the nation’s largest public pension fund and the world’s largest listed hedge fund, have called on the US Senate to enact strong federal legislation to curb the pollution causing global warming. In advance of the upcoming Senate debate on the Lieberman-Warner climate bill early next month, the group issued a letter today to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, calling for a national climate policy to reduce US greenhouse gas emissions by at least 60 to 90 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. NASA study links Earth impacts to human-caused climate change
A new NASA-led study shows human-caused climate change has made an impact on a wide range of Earth`s natural systems, including permafrost thawing, plants blooming earlier across Europe, and lakes declining in productivity in Africa. Cynthia Rosenzweig of NASA`s Goddard Institute for Space Science in New York and scientists at 10 other institutions have linked physical and biological impacts since 1970 with rises in temperatures during that period. The study, that was published on May 15 in the journal Nature, concludes human-caused warming is resulting in a broad range of impacts across the globe. ...
