China unveils US$140bn plan to build seven giant wind farms by 2020
The Chinese government this week announced plans for a US$140bn wind farm building programme that will see seven giant wind farms, each with a minimum capacity of 10GW, built by 2020. Officials said that once completed, the seven farms will have combined capacity of around 120GW, accounting for approximately eight per cent of the country`s expected total power capacity of 1,500GW in 2020.  Announcing the plan, Shi Pengfei, deputy director of renewable energy at the National Energy Administration, said the farms will be located at onshore locations in Gansu province, Hami in Xinjiang Uygur ...
A `quantum of sol` – how nanotechnology could hold key to solar-powered future
A new generation of `nano-structured` millimetre-sized solar cells that could convert the sun`s energy to electricity more than twice as efficiently as current technology, is the subject of an Imperial College London exhibit called `A Quantum of Sol` at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2009, which opens to the public this week. Visitors to the exhibit will be able to play at being solar power engineers, and use prisms to see how much electrical power can be generated by the different colours within the spectrum of light.  The exhibit is led by Dr Ned Ekins-Daukes, a researcher ...

Wilks Enterprise, Inc.
Wilks Enterprise Inc., founded in 1995, specializes in the development and manufacture of infrared (IR) analytical instrumentation for application specific qualitative and quantitative measurements. These instruments have been specifically designed for on-site field or at/near process line use, but are equally as useful in the analytical or testing laboratory - virtually anywhere repetitive IR measurements are needed. And, they are ideal for supplementing the capabilities of FT-IR Spectrometers in areas where it is not practical or economical to utilize such sophisticated and costly instruments. IR analysis is a very versatile and practical analytical tool with many broad applications in quality control, process monitoring, environmental or biofuels measurements and material verification. Whatever your IR application, chances are an InfraCal Filtometer, InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer or InfraRan Specific Vapor Analyzer can help you do the analysis more effectively and cost efficiently.
