US geothermal capacity to increase threefold as industry heats up
California and Nevada are leading the way in the development of US geothermal energy, according to a new report from the Geothermal Energy Association, which shows that installed geothermal capacity is set to increase more than threefold in the coming years. The report, US Geothermal Power Production and Development Update, says that total installed geothermal capacity in the US has soared since 2006/07, when it stood at around 2,850MW.  As of September, total capacity had reached 3,152MW with a further 6,442.9MW of new geothermal capacity currently under development. EU calls for trebling of green energy research funding
The EU launched a campaign this week to treble public and private-sector funding for energy research to €8bn (£7.35bn), as part of its wider efforts to cut carbon emissions 80 per cent by 2050.
