UK government gives go-ahead for London Array offshore windfarm
The Prime Minister and Ed Miliband have welcomed the go ahead this week by E.ON, Dong and Masdar of the first phase of the London Array offshore windfarm. The UK is already the world’s leading generator of offshore wind energy. The 1 Gigawatt London Array, to be situated off Kent and Essex, will be the biggest offshore wind farm in the world, generating enough electricity to power a quarter of Greater London’s homes, with the first power feeding into the grid by 2012. Solar firms plan US production boost
Two of the world`s largest solar manufacturers have announced plans to set up shop in the US, as the roll out of large scale solar projects across the country continues to accelerate. Suntech Power has this week confirmed it is seeking a base for solar production in the country, while solar module manufacturer Schott Solar has just opened at $100m, 200,000 square-foot facility in New Mexico.  China-based Suntech, which is the largest solar panel manufacturer in the world, said that it would begin surveying potential sites for a manufacturing plant during the next six months.  Its ...
