Methane to markets soars: US$4.5m provides a global clean energy boost
Capturing methane from landfills and other sources is paving the way to a clean, green energy source and reducing greenhouse gases in the fight against climate change. Through the Methane to Markets Partnership (M2M), EPA is funding 20 projects that will help 12 countries increase their capture and use of methane from the landfill, coal, agriculture, and oil and natural gas sectors. Government urged to rethink offshore wind strategy
The government must allow wind farms to be built closer to the shore if project developers are to build a robust business case for investors, according to a new study from The Carbon Trust. Under proposals, the next generation of offshore wind farms proposed by the government will have to be built in deep water a minimum of 70 miles from the shore. However, while the policy is expected to ensure that the developments face minimal opposition from local residents concerned about the visual impact project, it is expected to add significantly to construction costs.
