Biofuels beneficial to human health, says UC Berkeley
In the recent fervor to quantify the impact of biofuels on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, the other public health benefits of ethanol have often been overlooked. In ongoing research at the Energy Biosciences Institute (EBI), researchers are finding that “a biofuel eliminating even 10-percent of current gasoline pollutant emissions would have a substantial impact on human health in this country, especially in urban areas.” EBI is a collaboration of UC Berkeley, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the University of Illinois, and BP. New report calls for the EU to eliminate obsolete pesticide stocks
The European Institutions must push for international action to reduce obsolete pesticides and their risks to human health and the environment, according to a new report published by the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS). Obsolete pesticides are excess pesticides that can no longer be used either because they have deteriorated during storage or because their use has since been banned. These pose significant risks to human health and the environment, particularly in countries without adequate disposal facilities.
