UK HSE warns: unlicensed stripping of asbestos will be penalised
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is warning the building trade that companies or individual contractors removing asbestos without holding the necessary licences face prosecution. This move follows the HSE prosecution of Roger Lee Lavender, the managing director of a company, Secal Laser Ltd, for the unlicensed removal of asbestos insulation boards from the company`s Telford factory. Surveys, conducted in 2004 and 2007, clearly stated that removal of the asbestos from the factory would need to be carried out by a licensed asbestos company. EPA adds nine hazardous waste sites to superfund’s national priorities list
The US Environmental Protection Agency is adding nine new hazardous waste sites that pose risks to human health and the environment to the National Priorities List of Superfund sites.  Also, EPA is proposing to add 13 other sites to the list.  Superfund is the federal program that investigates and cleans up the most complex, uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites in the country.
