US$12.5m credit for environmental sustainability in the Maldives
The World Bank has approved a US$12.5 million credit to assist the Government of Maldives to effectively manage environmental risks to fragile coral reefs and other marine habitats. The Environment Management Project is designed to help the government control the threats to coral reefs and marine habitats resulting from development, increased solid waste disposal and global climate change. US senate abandons global warming bill
The US Senate`s much anticipated tangle with a landmark bill that would have required the nation to make deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions responsible for global warming came to an unceremonious end last Friday, as proponents failed to muster enough votes to formally consider the legislation.
