Top Olympic athlete Yao Ming becomes UNEP`s first environmental champion
Top Olympic athlete Yao Ming is the UN Environment Programme`s first-ever Environmental Champion, UNEP announced. Basketball megastar Yao Ming, who plays for the National Basketball Association (NBA) and for China`s Olympic team, is one of the most famous athletes in the world today. He is a national icon in China and carried the Olympic Flame into Tiananmen Square on 6 August, as well as being his country`s flag-bearer at the Opening Ceremony.

Advertising not sustainable, authority tells Shell
A Shell suggestion in advertising that oil sands were a sustainable energy source has been ruled out of order by the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority, upholding a complaint lodged by WWF-UK. WWF-UK has launched its own advertising campaign via a video billboard at central London’s busiest railway station, stating that `Shell can`t hide the environmental impact of their oil sand projects.´
Examining the advertisement placed by Shell in the Financial Times earlier this year, the Advertising Standards Authority branded it “misleading” due to its ambiguous use of the word “sustainable”.
