Regional partner`s decision support system used in development of carbon management plan for industry
The Plains CO2 Reduction (PCOR) Partnership, one of seven members of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnerships program, has used its Decision Support System (DSS) to assist in preparing a carbon management plan for Excelsior Energy’s Mesaba Energy Project. The plan examines potential options for managing the project’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions as a strategy for addressing climate change issues.

Identifying pollution hotspots in the landscape
Water pollution due to excess sediment and nutrients is a serious problem in the U.S. Billions of taxpayer dollars are spent each year on conservation programs to reduce agriculture’s contribution to this pollution. The vast majority of agricultural conservation subsidies are given to the first qualified landowner who requests them, although it is widely recognized that some portions of the landscape are hotspots and contribute disproportionate amounts of pollution.
