Google boosts PowerMeter initiative
Google has unveiled the first set of utility and smart meter manufacturing partners as part of its PowerMeter project. The project aims to bring information about energy usage into electricity customers` homes. It is provided as a Google Gadget that can be installed on a home computer, providing a graph of how much electricity is being used throughout the day. San Francisco online EcoMap goes live
San Francisco officially unveiled its EcoMap late last week, which is an online system designed to map carbon emissions across the city.
The service, developed in conjunction with Cisco`s Internet Business Solutions Group, maps carbon emissions from transport, energy use, and waste. It is designed to encourage neighbourhoods to compete with each other to reduce their emissions.
In addition to seeing the number of tonnes of carbon emitted per household by a single neighbourhood, residents can also compare it to the emissions-per-household goals that have been set by the city, along with ... |
