EPA to reconsider monitoring requirements for airborne lead
To ensure the most vulnerable Americans are adequately protected from exposure to lead from the air, EPA will reconsider some of its lead air pollution monitoring requirements, Administrator Lisa P. Jackson announced. Even at low levels, lead exposures can damage a child’s IQ, learning and memory. “We have a fundamental responsibility to protect every child from environmental threats, especially contaminants like lead that can cause behavioral and learning disabilities and create a lifetime of challenges,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “We’re putting in place rigorous standards to ...
Dangerous chemicals from packaging can sometimes leach into food products
In June of this year the Environmental Working Group (EWG) sent a letter to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) commissioner, Dr. Margaret Hamburg, warning that dangerous chemicals are finding their way into our foods through plastics. The EWG has stated that the use of plastic pallets containing decabromodiphenyl ether (Deca) to ship, cool and store fruits and vegetables should be halted on safety grounds. Dr. Elizabeth Sanchez from the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition responded that Deca is not an authorized component of plastic pallets used for food processing. Also in ...

Wind Energy Sonic Anemometer (WESA) is designed for renewable energy market monitoring and testing – specifically wind turbine performance assessment and monitoring.

Climatronics Corporation, the leading U.S. manufacturer of weather sensors and systems for the global meteorological market, has developed a Wind Energy Sonic  Anemometer  (WESA) specifically for ambient wind sensing in extremely harsh and remote environments. WESA provides the reliable wind speed and direction data so critical to efficient wind turbine operation.

Benefits include:
• Compact size for minimum turbulence in the measure air stream
• Aerodynamic design for long-term reliability
• Robust heater consumes very little power yet allows sensor to shed ice easily
• No periodic maintenance or calibration required
