Protecting valuable urban soil
Soil provides multiple services, ranging from food production, water-filtering and carbon capture, to green park areas in towns and cities, important for human well-being. However, increased urbanisation is leading to a loss of soil resources. Researchers have developed an online evaluation method that can be used as an aid to urban planning to avoid the loss of precious areas of good quality soil.

Renewed cooperation between CIHEAM and FAO
The International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) based in Paris and FAO will strengthen their cooperation under an agreement signed at FAO`s Rome headquarters this week. The Agreement of Cooperation was signed by Bertrand Hervieu, Secretary General of CIHEAM and Hervé Lejeune, FAO Assistant Director-General and Directeur de Cabinet.
