Recycle Now reveals new household recycling ‘hotspots’
Research undertaken by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) to mark the celebration of Recycle Week (2nd- 6th June 2008) has highlighted a series of ‘hotspots’ in the home of ‘forgotten’ items of recyclable household waste. 62% of consumers recycle household items from their kitchen; only 36% and 34% respectively remember to recycle items from their bathroom and bedroom; 41% of people throwaway recyclable items from the bathroom; nearly 850,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent saved – the same as taking over a quarter of a million cars off the road each year - if every household ... |

EC pursues legal action against Italy over infringements of environmental laws
The European Commission is pursuing legal action against Italy over three cases in which EU legislation to protect the environment is being violated. One case concerns Italy`s failure to comply fully with a European Court of Justice (ECJ) judgement condemning it for not carrying out an environmental impact assessment of a new waste incinerator. In this regard the Commission is sending a first written warning under Article 228 of the treaty, which could lead to Italy being fined if it does not comply.
