UK Battery Regulations implemented
The Battery Regulations have come into force but the UK Government still has to select battery compliance schemes.
The first compliance period will begin on 1 January 2010. During the rest of 2009, potential BCSs will apply to the environment agencies, recruit battery producers and set up collection and recycling arrangements.
Battery producers will meet their responsibilities for collection and recycling by joining a BCS.

WRAP launches new research on fruit and veg waste
The Waste & Resources Action Programme and environmental consultancy Envirowise are to research the total amount of fresh fruit and vegetable waste by product in the retail sector for the first time and identify how to reduce it.
The project will develop detailed ‘resource maps’, which will identify the amounts of fresh produce and packaging waste generated for 11 products at key points in the supply chain and calculate their environmental impacts.
Best practice guidance will be produced covering storage, handling and packaging, and reports will be made for companies to benchmark themselves ... |
