Tesco teams up with BatteryBack
Tesco purchasing manager Huw Clifford said: “We believe major retailers will be key in helping Britain reach its annual battery recycling target. Tesco will be rolling out battery collection points across all stores in advance of the national campaign that starts next February. Only when collection points are in place will consumers begin to recycle their spent batteries. “We already have a national contract with WasteCare (parent company of BatteryBack) and combining battery collections at the same time makes both environmental and business sense. Benn sets out plans to make UK a `zero waste` nation
Environment Secretary Hilary Benn has introduced ambitious plans for Britain to become a “zero waste nation” at a waste summit in London. Addressing an audience of local authorities and the waste industry, Benn said: “We need to rethink how we view and treat waste in the UK. Why do we send valuable items like aluminium and food waste to landfill when we can turn them into new cans and renewable energy? Why use more resources than we need to in manufacturing?
