Public supports separate food waste collections, new report reveals
Trials offering separate collections of food waste to over 94,000 households have shown high levels of public support for diverting food waste from landfill, WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) revealed this week. Following these trials, some local authorities have already decided to roll out these collections on a permanent basis. Consumer surveys conducted by WRAP showed 78 per cent of residents were satisfied with the collection service they received and in around half of the areas where participation monitoring was conducted, 70% of households were taking part in the service. ‘CSI’ techniques to crack down on unlicensed waste operators
The Environment Agency is extending the use of the latest sophisticated techniques including forensics, handwriting experts and crime mapping alongside the legal powers in its fight against illegal waste activities. The move signals a renewed effort by the Environment Agency to stamp out the practice.
