European Commission launches public consultation on dismantling of ships
The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the options for a new initiative regarding the dismantling and recycling of ships. The consultation will allow stakeholders to provide input to the European Commission who are working on a strategy on better ship dismantling. The proposed strategy on better ship dismantling will help implement key elements of an international convention on safe ship recycling, due to be concluded in May. Councils lose power to snoop on litter offenders
Local authorities that use surveillance powers to see whether people put their bins out a day early are to have their powers curtailed. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has proposed plans that will reverse the expansion of a surveillance society amid widespread discontent at the extent of official surveillance. The Government has put out a consultation on the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.
