Parched Southern California puts squeeze on water supplies
Southern California has imposed price increases on its water supply as it battles ongoing drought conditions in a move that will affect roughly 19m business and residential customers. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has also slashed the available water supply to water providers in the state for the first time since 1991. The price hike, which takes effect on July 1, will increase the cost of water by 8.8 per cent, well above the rate of inflation. Cave Review of water markets publishes final report
The final report by Professor Martin Cave into competition and innovation in water markets has been published. The report sets out the challenges and opportunities facing the industry. It also recommends measures for increasing competition and innovation to benefit customers and the economy by up to £2.5 billion over 30 years and deliver considerable environmental and service improvements.
The Review recommends that: after an initial threshold of five megalitres, the Government should allow all non-household customers (1.5 million in England and 110,000 in Wales) to choose their water and wastewater ... |
