Calgon Carbon FCA activated carbon is a specially impregnated granular product developed for use in vapor phase applications. It is specifically produced for use in the removal of hydrogen sulfide and low molecular weight organic sulfur compounds from gas streams. Typical applications for FCA carbon include odor control, product purification and elimination of those sulfur compounds that affect catalyst performance.

FCA activated carbon is manufactured from selected grades of bituminous coal and suitable binders which impart the superior hardness necessary for long life in such applications. Following high temperature activation under rigidly controlled conditions, the carbon is specially impregnated to provide FCA with the unique properties required for removal of hydrogen sulfide and low molecular weight organic sulfur compounds.

FCA carbon contains only trace quantities of chlorides. It is available in several mesh sizes to suit specific design requirements.

Removal of hydrogen sulfide and low molecular weight organic sulfur compounds by FCA results from a chemical reaction of the sulfur with impregnants present on the carbon. Reactivation of the carbon requires that the reaction be reversed. Since procedures for reactivating FCA carbon are unique, it is suggested that Calgon Carbon be contacted for additional information on reactivation procedures for the specific application.
