RECOX - Recovery Boilers For Chemicals Recovery and Power Generation in Pulp Mills

Metso’s RECOX recovery boilers are known around the world for their efficient combustion, high availability, reliability, safety and environmental solutions. Their sizes range from small units to the largest in the world, operating up to 7,000 tons of dry solids per day. In developing the chemical recovery technology further, we focus on maximizing power generation according to the strictest environmental standards. Today, Metso has supplied over 300 RECOX boilers. Thirty of these are in size XL and in operation at pulp mills with a production of over one million tons per year.

Main Benefits

  • The highest possible efficiency and availability
  • Meets the strictest environmental standards
  • Low fouling and corrosion characteristics
  • Safe working environment for operators

Main Features

  • The heart of the recovery boiler process is the air system. Metso’s Multilevel Air System, especially designed for large recovery boilers, has a proven record of meeting the most stringent emission limits. It features a quaternary air system for an effective NOx reduction.
  • The dissolving vent gas and non-condensable gas burning systems can be integrated with the Multilevel Air System for an odorless mill.
  • The rigid cross-furnace screen at the nose arch is a unique feature of the RECOX boiler. The screen protects the superheater from furnace heat radiation and thus reduces corrosion.
  • In boiler design and layout, special attention has been paid to operator safety and ergonomics. The boiler features rodding systems for air ports and smelt spouts, retractable liquor gun systems and safety shields at the smelt spouts.
