Labiotest - Scrubber - Abatement systems

Abatement systems through absorption (scrubbers) are designed to remove pollutants present in a contaminated gaseous flow through the action of an adsorbing material that can be liquid (wet scrubber) or dry (dry scrubber). Labiotest offers a vast range of structural materials for the realization of dry or wet scrubbers, all equipped with automation and automatic regulation systems. These materials are specifically selected on the ground of the chemical-physical characteristics of air effluents treated and that of the environment in which they are set up. Examples of structural material commonly used are: stainless steel AISI304, 316L, galvanized plate, polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), high density polyethylene (PEHD), fiber glass (PRFV).

Dry abatement systems through absorption (dry scrubbers) are designed to remove pollutants present in a contaminated gaseous flow through the filtering and adsorbing action of particular solid state media. Labiotest offers a large range of structural materials for the realization of the scrubbers: DKFil filters, active carbons adsorbing filters and filtering cartridges, all equipped with automation and automatic regulation systems. This is backed by a sophisticated dedicated software owned by the company and hardware able to monitor the plant operation, monitor it in the best operational conditions according to the environmental context and characteristics of the air flow involved in the treatment and to regulate it according to process requirements, also from a distance, from any terminal having an internet connection.

DKFIL – fields of application and contaminants

The main fields of application of DKFil are those of liquid and solid waste, in various industrial fields (food industry, chemical industry, pharmaceutics, oil, textile industry, mining industry, rubber and plastics, transformation processes generally speaking) or civil activities (hospitals, nursing homes, civil wastewaters treatment, sludge drying).

The main pollutants subject to a high removal and retention efficiency with the filtering beds of the system are:

  • Hydrogen,
  • Ammonia,
  • Aliphatic and aromatic amines
  • Organic acids
  • Ethers,
  • Esters,
  • Aromatic hydrocarbons,
  • Aldehydes,
  • Ketones,
  • Aliphatic and cyclic hydrocarbons
  • Aromatic elements,
  • Mercaptans
  • Aromatic and aliphatic amines,
  • Styrene.

Wet Scrubber

Wet abatement systems through absorption (wet scrubbers) are designed to remove pollutants present in a contaminated gaseous flow through the action of a liquid (solvent) and adequate chemical reagents. Labiotest offers Venturi batteries, single or multiple towers, horizontal or vertical with self-cleaning floating or static beds having a high rate of wetness for high efficiency washings, all equipped with automation and automatic regulation systems.

This is backed by a sophisticated dedicated software owned by the company and hardware able to monitor the plant operation, monitor it in the best operational conditions according to the environmental context and characteristics of the air flow involved in the treatment and to regulate it according to process requirements, also from a distance, from any terminal having an internet connection.

Fields of application and contaminants

There are many fields of application for scrubbers: industrial production, transformation and treatment processes for finished materials and manufactured elements (galvanization, galvanic, fusion, fine chemistry and basic chemistry, petrochemistry, plastics transformation, organic products) and treatment of industrial and civil wastewaters.

Main pollutants subject to high removal and absorption efficiencies are:

  • Hydrogen,
  • Ammonia,
  • Organic acids,
  • Ketones (low molecular weight),
  • Mercaptans
  • Aromatic and aliphatic amines,
  • Mineral acids
  • Inorganic acids
  • Sulphuric anhydrides
  • Oily mists

Third Stage of Treatment

Due to its know-how and long experience Labiotest developed a third stage of treatment applied to scrubbers, whether dry or wet. This stage consists in setting up a distribution device in the upper expansion chamber of the DKFIL system or wet scrubber, so as to establish a contact with a neutralizing solution having a high-level micronization rate.

The introduction of an additional air cleansing system yielded very good results from a management point of view, as well as concerning the process, because it not only increased the general level of efficiency, but also gave a useful treatment tool even for a traditional plant that is “turned off”

As regards the abatement efficiency, an adsorbing system set up and equipped with the abovementioned technical solutions – the “third stage” being excluded – was able to remove from 95 to 98.5% of odorigenous contaminants present in the effluent.

The configuration of the plant with a fixed bed having the aerial washing in the upper expansion chamber, in the same operational conditions, yielded instead an efficiency rate of 99,8%.

The addition of an extra stage of treatment, under the same operational conditions, allows getting rates of higher abatement efficiency, also by 30%, if compared to the traditional equipment.
