The Shark is a low-cost wireless solution that converts your data logger or industrial equipment into a Bluetooth class 1 wireless-enabled communications instrument. The Shark is designed and manufactured by Stevens for industrial and the environmental monitoring applications. It is an RS232/RS485 serial port adapter that uses Bluetooth wireless technology. The Shark relies on the Bluetooth SPP (serial port profile) protocol to replace RS232 or RS485 cables. Its robust design will handle many extreme environmental conditions and power management concerns. The Shark will communicate with another Shark or with any Bluetooth enabled device.
The Shark is a Class 1 Bluetooth radio technology and achieves at least a 100-meter range of communication. The Class 1 radio combined with an external antenna attachment provides the user with multiple antenna options to boost the communication range with other Bluetooth-enabled devices. Unlike other RS232 adapters with Bluetooth wireless technology that simply establish a Bluetooth wireless connection to allow sending of serial data, the Shark emulates the behavior of a serial port that has a serial cable connection. The Shark achieves this by turning the COM port on only when a Bluetooth wireless connection is established.
