ORBCOMM’s global system includes 30 MicroStar Satellites which transmits data between the monitoring site and one of the earth gateway stations via narrow band VHF frequencies. System operation is similar in concept to cellular phone service, but is strictly for data communications. The ST2500 is easy to install at a relative low cost and minimal maintenance requirements. The Transceiver is capable of continuous remote operation and delivers geopositional data calculated by measuring the Doppler frequency shift of the satellite downlink during a scheduled pass by the orbiting vehicle. The optional ST2500G uses a GPS receiver for fast positioning in cases where better accuracy is required. All other specifications are identical to the ST2500 unit.
