VeruTEK Technologies Inc. (VTKT.PK), a green technology company, announced today that it has once again successfully implemented an in-place remediation of soil, groundwater and LNAPL at a precision manufacturing site located in Connecticut. Using its proprietary Surfactant-Enhanced In Situ Chemical Oxidation (S-ISCO™) technology, VeruTEK® effectively, and efficiently reduced subsurface oil levels to below detectable limits. VeruTEK's green technology provides an environmentally friendly, feasible approach for complete or near-complete remediation of contaminated subsurface soils and groundwater.
Contamination at the site consisted of hydraulic fluid-related Light Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (LNAPLs), which included several volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), and petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs). VeruTEK's S-ISCO™ is a remediation technology platform designed to target and destroy various types of contaminants, using environmentally friendly plant extracts and oxidants. Furthermore, these new technologies allow for in-place remediation, providing attainable solutions for contamination previously considered as 'inaccessible' for techniques such as excavation.
“This is another result that shows that green technologies are replacing landfilling, incineration, and other traditional, non-sustainable, ineffective and incomplete efforts to remedy contamination,” said John Collins, Ph.D., President and CEO of VeruTEK. “Contamination at this site was located in the subsurface, beneath the manufacturing building where VeruTEK's S-ISCO™ implementation provides the only feasible solution, allowing complete remediation of soils, groundwater, and oils.”
“VeruTEK is an excellent contractor to work with,” stated Project Engineer, and client consultant Malcolm Beeler of TRC. “They got the job done right and on schedule. At one point there was up to an inch of LNAPL at this site, VeruTEK quickly reduced it to non-detectible limits, and after three months there is still no presence of LNAPL at this site.”
VeruTEK's remediation techniques provide site-specific, green solutions that allow for remediation in areas where existing technologies cannot be implemented. This technology eliminates the use of landfills, and provides an overall healthier, safer solution for cleaning up toxic contamination in the environment.
