New York City joins the Netherlands for NY400 Week

The occasion will highlights the water-related problems for urban area like the Netherlands and New York City. The Liberty Science Center is the venue for the conference highlighting common challenges for urban areas in estuaries in the Netherlands, New York, Louisiana, California and Florida. There are working groups where professionals (from DHV, Arcadis, fugro and TU Delft) and their American colleagues from Harvard, NYC Planning Department and Regional Planning Association will develop a sustainable and safe waterfront for the Upper New York Bay and the Netherlands IJ banks. This is just one of the twenty workshops. Also water quality is an important issue.

NY400 Week is to take place 8thto 13th September and will include a visit by HRH the Prince of Orange and HRH Princess Máxima of the Netherlands, a variety of events, exhibits, outdoor activities and performances across the five boroughs including, direct from Holland, the New Island Festival. The week's events culminate in the first-ever Harbor Day on September 13, which commemorates New York City's Dutch roots and vibrant waterfront. To encourage increased travel between the Netherlands and New York City this year, a special airfare promotion in partnership with Continental Airlines offering 400 Euros round-trip fare from Amsterdam to New York City from 1stSeptember through 17thDecember was announced.
