Recycling of many biosolids to land is likely to be the most environmentally and ecologically sound method. However, nutrients, pathogens and persistent chemicals may represent significant obstacles to this use of biosolids. There is also an increased need for market development and appropriate assessment of waste materials before they go to land, but perceived risks in using such wastes are often significantly greater than real risks.
