SMHI's expertise in water dynamics identifies erosion areas in watercourses, lakes and along the coast, with the help of advanced numerical models or rough calculations, all based on the client's needs and requirements regarding accuracy.
We answer questions such as:
Erosion conditions in watercourses and lakes change when the water flow changes, which, in turn, can impact on beaches and buildings that are close to a coastline. Coastal bottoms, which previously collected loose sediment, can be transformed into erosion bottoms. If the sediments contain pollutants, they can go into suspension and effect sensitive areas downstream.
New piers and harbour areas can produce changes to current conditions, meaning that substrate can move to non-desirable areas, or, for example, that constructions built on drive piles lose their stability.
SMHI, with their knowledge, experience and modelling tools, can predict these problems and suggest suitable measures early on during the planning stages.
