ESdat is a specialist environmental database management system, for use by environmental consultants and site managers; particularly those concerned with contaminated / industrial sites, groundwater investigations, landfill and regulatory compliance.
ESdat allows for efficient importing from a range of systems or data sources into a central environmental database; provides data comparison and analysis, comprehensive reporting, and integration with other software. The system also performs QA analysis and has automatic data validation checks.
The flexibility of ESdat means that it can be customised to meet the unique needs of individual users, either by end users or by our staff.
ESdat is designed to meet all your geological and environmental data management, analysis and reporting needs. In particular:
Contaminated / industrial site investigations typically generate large volumes of soil, water, gas and QA data, which require: Table production with comparison against environmental standards; QA analysis, and; presentation as maps & graphs. ESdat can automate these tasks.
Groundwater Resources assessment often integrates geological, piezometric, chemical, surface water and rainfall data. ESdat users can integrate and analyse these data sets by aquifer, spatially, temporily or by other attribute.
Landfill monitoring often results in significant time-series datasets. ESdat can store all your monitoring data; produce report-ready tables, graphs and maps; and provide trend analysis.
Site managers who need to track ongoing monitoring or investigations can collect large isolated datasets. Electronic copies of the data may be in non-consistent formats, meaning that data re-use and integration is difficult and expensive. ESdat provides a systematic approach to storing, managing, analysing and reporting your data. ESdat also has optional Flora/Fauna and Operational extensions that can extend the system to include all of your site's environmental data.
Laboratory Data can be directly imported into ESdat. Most major laboratories can provide data in a suitable format, which includes comprehensive QA information. The specification for laboratories is given on the Resources page.
Field and Borehole/Drilling data can be entered directly into ESdat Excel based Import Templates and imported, or imported directly from PLog.
Historical Data can be imported directly from tabular formats in Excel (for an example see ESdat Import Templates ).
Excel based ESdat Import Templates can be e-mailed to others, populated, returned, and the data directly imported.
The LSpecs extension for ESdat provides for electronic management of:
The LSpecs extension for ESdat is designed to work in combination with PLog Environmental on a PDA.
ESdat is able to produce a complete Chemical Quality Assurance report.
The QA Report checks for:

Chemistry Tables are produced via export to Excel. Users are able to specify the compound orientation, grouping, format, environmental standards and other settings.
The examples below show one table with compounds across the top, with guideline exceedances shown in a progressive colour gradation.
Trend graphs can be produced for any time-series data. Features of graphs include:

Understanding the spatial and stratigraphic variations in a dataset is often critical to forming an effective conceptual understanding.
ESDAT has inbuilt options enabling users to see common label and colour variations at the click of a button. Users can immediately see where their data is located without having to use external applications. In addition ESDAT can export to ArcGIS, MapInfo, and Surfer if required.
Chemistry Exeedances by depth (by date, aquifer, etc.. also available) |
PLog is the most advanced data collection software for geological, geo-technical, and geo-environmental data. It runs on either a PDA or a Tablet PC.
Upon returning to the office data can be uploaded to ESdat and your borehole logging and other reporting software.
Importantly, PLog now imports directly into ESdat meaning all your site data can be consolidated into a single database.
PLog is now enhanced with the recent release of PLog Environmental which records data related to: field chemistry; lab samples; COC; and other related information.
EarthScience Information Systems is the distributor for PLog within Australia. Please contact us to arrange a demo version. Also see the Dataforensics website for more information on PLog and PLog Environmental.

gINT and WinLog ESdat does not do borehole logging internally and so exports relevant data to either of these packages.
ArcView, MapInfo, Surfer and Google Earth are GIS and mapping applications. ESdat has internal mapping functionality, and can also export to these packages.
EVS (Environmental Visualisation System) is a 3D visualisation and modelling package.
ProUCL provides many calculations useful for contaminated sites, including 95 percentile calculations using a variety of data distributions (ie normal, log-normal, non-parametric).
Excel can receive a direct data dump, or graphs or formatted tables can be exported.
ESdat is designed to work closely with the underlying database in the management and manipulation of your data. Competant users may add additional tables, or write additional queries. This can be achieved by directly opening the underlying database using the Access link (or Management Studio for SQL Server databases). So long as the queries in the Database run without errors they can be used through ESdat. This means the database is transparent to users and outputs can be customised to almost any extent.
