GaBi Build-it

GaBi Build-it is the professional software solution for conducting the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of a building. Planning scenarios can be compared or building elements analyzed with respective to their environmental performance.

Currently, GaBi Build-it is only available in German language.

The GaBi Build-it solution is based on a generic building model and includes the specific maintenance cycles of the building materials as well as their end of life treatment and disposal as defined by the German Council for Sustainable Construction (DGNB).

The user simply enters the amount of building materials and the energy demand of the building and GaBi Build-it calculates the environmental impact of the building in line with the ISO 14040/14044 Life Cycle Assessment methodology and the requirements of the DGNB.

GaBi Build-it shows detailed results for:

  • Global Warming Potential
  • Acidification Potential
  • Eutrophication Potential
  • Ozone Depletion Potential
  • Photochemical Creation Potential (Summer Smog)
  • Primary Energy Demand (from fossil and renewable sources

The contribution from each of the material groups and building elements to these environmental impacts is transparently displayed.

GaBi Build-it is ideal for building certification since it is fully aligned with the calculation and documentation requirements of the DGNB.

You can conduct building LCAs for the following DGNB certification variants:

  • Office and administration buildings – “Neubau Büro- und Verwaltungsgebäude (NBV08) und (NBV09)“
  • Trade/commerce buildings – “Neubau Handelsbauten, Version 2009 (NHA09)”
  • Educational facilities – “Neubau Bildungsbauten, Version 2009 (NBI09)“
  • Industrial constructions – “Neubau Industriebauten, Version 2009 (NIN09)”
  • Redevelopments – “Komplettsanierung, Version 2010 (KBV10)”
  • Residential buildings – “Neubau Wohnungsbauten, Version 2010 (NWO10)“

Functionalities

Functionalities

Image
  • Get started right-away by entering your building specifications into the ready-to-use input area, for example, material use, floor space, electricity use, etc.
  • Choose which DGNB certification system you want to use (e.g., NBV08, NBV09)
  • Compare different scenarios, for example, alternative energy supply scenarios.

Image
  • See the environmental impact of your building immediately in charts and tables in the report. The report will update as soon as you change the input values.
  • Identify hotspots and see the contributions from different materials or building elements and from different stages of your building’s life-time.

  • View detailed information on the results and scores of your building and see how it performs compared to the DGNB reference building.
  • All documentation is in line with the requirements of the DGNB.

Benefits

Benefits

GaBi Build-it allows you to…

  • Conduct a building LCA without in depth knowledge about LCA modeling
  • Ecologically compare different building alternatives within the planning stage
  • Use professional graphical outputs for communication with clients and stakeholders
  • Determine the scores for the DGNB Criteria 1-5,10 and 11 (e.g. global warming potential, total primary energy, etc.)
  • Utilize the results and the documentation for the DGNB certification process
