Air Quality Regulations Applications

  • Asphalt Mixing Smoke Filtration

Nomex Filter Bags Application: Nomex Filter Bags is mainly used in cement industry, asphalt industry, metallurgical industry, steel mill and tobacco industry for flue gas purification. Performance: Nomex Filter Bags continuous operating temperatures is up to 200°c, instant service temperature is up to 240°c. Nomex Filter Bags fire retardant performance is excellent, Corrosion resistance and alkali resistance is good, Excellent thermal stability, excellent abrasion resistance and flexural resistance. Hydrolysis resistance is poor, when SOx and vapor in flue gas or dew point is frequent, it would greatly reduce its service life.

  • Air Emissions Management

In most companies today, managers are overwhelmed with poorly organized, de-centralized data and are still making decisions by reacting to historical results driven by non-standardized processes and guessing about the future. Highly customized spreadsheets, manual extracts from hard to use ERP systems, “cut & paste” reporting…sound familiar?

  • Opacity monitoring for continuous emissions

The history of air pollution regulation dates back as far as the 13th century when in 1273, Edward I (Longshanks) of England prohibited the burning of sea coal in London. The smoke produced by its combustion was considered detrimental to human health. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, regulations were being passed that sought to control air pollution predominantly for smoke and odour control. Traditionally, regulators were concerned with the visual impact of the discharge from a stack or chimney. Therefore, emission limits were expressed in terms of colour or opacity. Modern methods for opacity measurement still use the darkness of the stack gases to measure the amount of smoke or dust emitted within the exhaust gases.

  • Noise monitoring for railways and trains

Controlling and monitoring railway and train noise in residential and urban areas is a critical function of a railway. The noise generated can be dependent upon the engine, rail cars, rail construction, train speed, and the horn. Modern high speed trains have also created new levels of high frequency noise that create an acoustic disturbance that sounds like an aircraft going by.

  • Flaring Solutions for the Upstream Oil & Gas Industry - Oil & Gas Production (Enclosed Combustors)

The EPA mandates that all upstream oil and gas operators install factory-certified combustors that meet new Quad O compliance standards, or perform field testing on the flare system post-installation. ABUTEC offers the only compliance-ready combustors available to the market, making expensive testing no longer necessary for our customers. The use of enclosed combustors is an integral piece of the extraction process and affords companies the opportunity to operate in extreme conditions while still maintaining low emissions and following Quad O regulations.

  • Painting & Coating

Paint fumes are Unbreathable. Spray Painting VOCs and Powder Coating dust are both harmful pollutants which are produced during painting operations. The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from paint can cause respiratory issues and require proper ventilation to remove harmful gasses from the work area. Powder Coating lines and spray painting produce dangerous fumes and dusts which need to be filtered or exhausted outside your facility. Industrial coatings and chemicals can produce toxic VOCs and foul odors which can effect worker`s health and reduce productivity. Some of the most common coatings are polymers which include polyurethane, epoxy and moisture-cure urethane. Many different industries required the use of glues, adhesives, solvents and different chemical agents in their production process, but are unsure of the best way to handle this nuisance. Exhausting fumes outside may be an option when VOCs are extremely dangerous and odorous but companies must also comply with EPA guidelines which regulate which gases can be emitted. In cold climates and in air-conditioned facilities, capturing, filtering and recirculating fumes can provide huge energy savings preventing costly heat loss and energy intensive air makeup systems. Utilizing activated carbon granules can allow operators to filter VOCs and odors from painting and cutting applications. Different quantities and types of carbon modules are required depending upon the contaminant. • Noise monitoring for airport noise

Air traffic is the source of several forms of disturbance to the surrounding area, including, in particular, noise pollution. Local residents in the vicinity of an airport are the most severely affected and are very conscious of the aircrafts` flight paths and the impact on their day-to-day living conditions.

Capabilities of the Adsorbent Tube Injector System (ATIS™)

The Adsorbent Tube Injector System (ATIS) was developed at Supelco® by R&D Scientists, as a tool to assist in our comprehensive adsorbent research for thermal desorption tubes. The ATIS provides an efficient means of transferring calibration standards in either the gas or liquid phase onto the adsorbent packed tubes. The ATIS employs the technique of flash vaporization to vaporize the sample in a continuous flow of inert gas; the inert gas carries the sample to the tube. The sample pathway of the ATIS is constructed of glass and stainless steel. The calibration standard is injected by a syringe through a replaceable septum in the center of the injection glassware, which is heated. After enough time has elapsed, typically less than five minutes, the tube is removed from the ATIS and analyzed using the appropriate analytical technique for that adsorbent tube.

    Wastewater Treatment

Many industrial and pharmaceutical processes generate wastewater with volatile contaminants that increase the COD and BOD to a point where discharging to municipal wastewater is very costly or not an option. These contaminants can be removed from the water by distillation, substantially lowering the disposal cost, and, in many cases, the removed components can be further purified and reused in the process. MEGTEC offers the following solutions to remove the volatile contaminants and make wastewater suitable for discharge to most municipal wastewater treatment plants: Stripping columns using direct steam or a reboiler Distillation columns using indirect steam heat sources Our technologies have been applied to a range of processes including wastewater treatment from industries such as Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, Chemical and Petrochemical.

Measurement of C1-C5 with carbon dioxide for oil & gas exploration.

The PetroAlert Model 8900 combines the selectivity of gas chromatography with the sensitivity, broad dynamic range, and hydrocarbon selectivity of a flame ionization detector (FID) providing fast analysis of C1-C5 hydrocarbons and Carbon Dioxide required in Mud Logging for Oil & Gas exploration. The PetroAlert Model 8900 uses a dual column configuration with timed backflush to vent which is used to strip off moisture and C6+ hydrocarbons. A pre-cut column is used in series with the analytical column. At sample injection a fixed sample volume is carried to the pre-cut column. Backflush of the pre-cut column is timed from sample injection so that only C1-C5 hydrocarbons are eluted from the pre-cut column to the analytical column. C6+ hydrocarbons on the pre-cut column are then vented. Then a third column is used in conjunction with a second 10-port valve for individual analysis of methane. C1-C5 hydrocarbons are separated on the analytical column and elute to the flame ionization detector (FID) for analysis.
