Air Purification Solutions for Corrosion Control - Electronics and Computers
Protecting your critical electronic equipment from gaseous contaminants in the air that corrode copper and silver connectors, contacts, printed circuit boards, hard drives, switches, and cabling is critical to operations. Applying gas-phase media manufactured to chemically react with acid gases extends the useful life of these sensitive components.
Overview Application/Industries Served
As more and more control systems are managed via electronic and computer systems, failure of these controls could be catastrophic. Protecting them is a high priority because the replacement would be costly and the failure more so.
ProMark designs equipment to capture polluted air, chemically remove harmful gases, and filter out particles - returning clean air back to the space from which it came. The ProGuard Media we use becomes spent over time and needs to be tested for remaining life. We offer that service to our customers free of charge. Periodic sampling and testing of ProGuard media ensures peak performance of the scrubber and optimum protection of the electronics and electrical components.
Damage from corrosion can cause downtime in production, costly repairs, and—in worst-case scenarios—equipment failure and replacement.Solution: Ongoing corrosion monitoring, installing the the correct media and correct pressurization unit.
To protect sensitive electronics and electrical systems, air must be continuously drawn into a fan-forced scrubber and through selected ProGuard Media to effectively remove corrosive gases. There are multiple scrubber types depending on the concentration of the pollutants. The recirculation and pressurization scrubber can be located near electronics and recirculate air while constantly removing gases. A recirculation and pressurization unit can also be configured to pressurize a space with outside air, scrubbed before it enters the space. The third option is a recirculation and pressurization scrubber that performs both functions in one housing. For high levels of pollutants, a bulk-fill scrubber is the best solution. It is the simplest execution of a scrubber, maximizing the amount of media with easy access for emptying and replacing spent media. A bulk-fill scrubber can be configured to pressurize a building preventing infiltration of corrosive gases and is the best choice when concentration of gases is high.
Diagnostic equipment is a large capital investment for healthcare facilities and in-vitro laboratories. The complex electronic components are highly susceptible to damage from corrosive gases and fine particles.Solution: Ongoing Monitoring, right size equipment and correct media.
Modern medical diagnostic equipment like CT and MRI systems are technologies with lots of electronics—all are vulnerable to corrosion. Switching to non-lead solder has increased their risk of corrosion, but it is safer for people. It only takes a few parts per billion of sulfur or nitrogen oxides (produced in vehicle exhaust) to corrode and cause a failure in sensitive electronic systems. Solution: Constantly scrubbing the room air where equipment is located with an RP1000 recirculation and pressurization scrubber that draws the air through ProGuard® 200, 300, 900. All are excellent at converting the SO2, H2S, NO, NO2, and NO3 to harmless solids that remain permanently on the filtration media. Our RP scrubber also captures particles with either a MERV14 or HEPA filter to further protect sensitive equipment. This is an economical solution compared to the cost of repairing or replacing failed circuit boards and productivity lost while the equipment is down.
