Air Purification Solutions for Wastewater Odor Control - Water and Wastewater
Unpleasant odors can be a problem almost anywhere. ProMark can help you eliminate unwanted odors and create a more comfortable, healthy environment. Common sources of odors include wastewater treatment plants, sewer lift stations that are close to residences, solid-waste transfer stations, nearby manufacturing plants, vehicle exhaust on highways and many more.
Overview Application/Industries Served
Odors are gases, and to neutralize them we must use a chemical solution so they cannot become airborne again. Since there are many odors to deal with, it takes a range of gas-phase media to address all of them. Many times there are multiple odors, in which cases a blend of media is the best solution.
Wastewater plants process residential, commercial and industrial waste streams from sewer pipes that start generating odors en route to treatment. Once in the plant the odors are released in multiple locations and travel with the wind. Controlling the odors requires multiple approaches and systems.Solution:
Wastewater odors are primarily hydrogen sulfide, H2S, that rotten egg smell. There are several ProGuard® Media that work well removing that chemical from air. The challenge is capturing the air that has the H2S and forcing it through a media bed filled with one of those filter media. If a lift station happens to be in a close-by neighborhood that that complains about odors, then a bulk-fill scrubber is the best solution. The bulk-fill scrubber sits on top of the lift station and draws the air up and through the media bed discharging the deodorized air to atmosphere. If the odors are inside the plant, then a recirculation and pressurization unit or side-access housing is usually the best choice for their higher airflow rates and connection to ducts in the building.
Medical facilities such as waiting rooms, patient rooms, nursing homes, assisted-living centers, and urgent care units provide care for those who are ill or can no longer care for themselves. Biological odors affect indoor air quality for patients, families, visitors, and healthcare workers alike.Solution: The correct size equipment and the right filters
Healthcare facilities come in all sizes, each of which has commercial HVAC systems. Typically HVAC systems rely only on standard particle filters to clean the air. If there is sufficient depth in front of the cooling coil, the recommendation is adding gas-phase media in modules into that space. If that is not possible, then next best is replacing the prefilter with a ProGuard® Filter
- Room size
- Available space in which to place a scrubber
- The volume of air needed to be recirculated
Our many years of designing all types of scrubbers enables us to design a solution to meet your particular needs.
Animal Labs and Farms
Animal odors can be a result of illness, old age, indoor accidents, food, bringing odors in from outside, and litter boxes. Odors from clinical treatments, surgical procedures, and boarding animals in veterinary clinics permeate larger spaces. We love our pets so solving the odor problems is a must.Solution: The correct equipment and the correct filter.
The solution is to recirculate the offensive air through the best gas-phase media for that odor. How you move the air through the media is the question. If you have an existing air handling unit for heating and cooling you can simple replace its prefilter with a ProGuard® Filter with gas-phase media. The media can be ProGuard® 600, activated carbon, ProGuard® 300, potassium permanganate on alumina, or a blend of both. This is the easiest and lowest cost. If you need a system to move the air and filter out particles and gases then there are several options
