Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the effects on human health of various factors that are properties or constituents of the air we breathe and generally indoors. Very briefly, we can say that a series of events led to the finding that many chemical or biological substances can be inhaled which can cause various health problems which start as simple disorders but lead to serious illnesses. Of similar importance are several natural parameters of the so-called `interior environment`.
Overall these factors are usually categorized as follows:
- Natural factors (such as temperature, humidity, pressure and wind speed, amount of ventilation, noise, radiation)
- Chemical factors (such inert powders, fibres, soot, volatile organic compounds, oxides of nitrogen, carbon monoxide, ammonia, etc.)
- Biological factors (such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, parasites, allergens, etc.)
One of the most familiar characteristics of the negative effects on human health generally due to various factors of indoor areas is Sick Building Syndrome, (SBS).. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this syndrome takes the form of the appearance of certain symptoms which appear when people stay in a particular building or section of that building. The main symptoms include a runny nose, irritation of the skin and eyes, tiredness, headaches, a feeling of heaviness in the chest, an inability to concentrate, bothersome odours and symptoms of the flu.
The neutralization of chemical agents i.e. pollutants found indoors is a very important issue for the improvement of human health. Typical problems arise in areas such as offices, restaurants, cafeterias, assembly halls, theatres, cinemas, waiting rooms etc.Our company undertakes the design, planning and construction of systems for the elimination of particle and gaseous pollutants. The retention of particles in conjunction with the removal of gaseous pollutants and odors, ensures a clean interior environment, protects human health and prevents complaints by employees of or visitors to the site.
At the implementation level, there is the possibility of adapting the existing air-conditioning system or ventilation, by using the Purafil chemical filter PuraGrid ™ IAQ which is especially manufactured for the retention of those air pollutants which are increasingly being encountered indoors. This filter takes the form of a honeycomb block and is manufactured in the standard dimensions of commercial mechanical filters. In this way, it can easily be installed on existing air-conditioning units or ventilation units, with minor modifications. Also because of its special construction, it does not cause any significant drop in pressure and thus there is no need for any modification of the fan unit.
Alternatively, there is the possibility of the installation in the area of type RAP autonomous units.
The operating principle of the RAP system is based on the filtering of particles, odours and pollutants that constitute the problem. The RAP units have a series of filters for the removal of particles and for the neutralizing of odours and pollutants. The air is conveyed to the filtering system utilizing a fan. A part of the air for discharge may enter from the outside environment and after being filtered is conveyed to the required space.
