  • Wastewater systems solutions for activated sludge sector

Most activated sludge systems have two things in common... Insufficient mixing which leads to poor solids suspension, poor processing, and potential violations and Excessive energy use & cost trying to accomplish item #1. There are other challenges too of course. Odors need to be kept below the "neighbor noticing" threshold. Issues with nitrification / denitrification can easily become large permitting problems. And let`s throw in chlorination / dechlorination and THM removal in there for good measure.

  • Determination of water-soluble forms of inorganic and organic anions in soils, clays, peat, wastewater silt, activated sludge, and bottom sediments

The method allows determination of water-soluble forms of inorganic (chlorides, sulfates, nitrates, fluorides and phosphates) and organics (acetates, formates, and oxalates) anions in soils, clays, peats, wastewater silts, activated sludges and bottom sediments by capillary electrophoresis method.

  • Waste water respirometry solutions for monitoring activated sludge health - sour test

Respiration rate monitoring of Antwerp treatment works showed periods when the activated sludge was up to 40% inhibited, with resultant sludge washout episodes. Using the Health monitoring test, a pattern of ‘normal’ respiration rates for a plant can be determined. Lower respiration rates will alert the treatment works to a chronic toxicity problem, allowing corrective actions to be taken. Toxicity monitoring can now be carried out on a routine daily basis, at all treatment works receiving potentially toxic...

  • Filamentous Bulking Control with Hydrogen Peroxide

Basis of Control with Hydrogen Peroxide Hydrogen peroxide may be used to correct a serious filamentous bulking situation or, preferably, to prevent one from occurring until adjustments can be made to remove the cause. When applied to the return activated sludge, hydrogen peroxide supplies dissolved oxygen which helps restore the microbial activity necessary for effective operation, while selectively oxidizing the filaments which retard settling. The effective dose of hydrogen peroxide is a function of time and...

  • Waste water respirometry solutions for toxicity reduction tests

In industrial manufacturing companies, before a new process comes on-line, it is important to measure the toxicity of the effluent stream. This is especially the case for companies who treat their own waste. From the toxicity value (EC50) obtained, it may be a cost-effective solution to simply discharge the effluent to the treatment works at a slow and defined rate to minimise damage to the activated sludge. Following a period of acclimatisation it is often possible to increase feed rates to the plant and this...

  • Waste water respirometry solutions for process optimisation

Respiration rate of activated sludge has been recognised as a key controlling element in the modelling of process control, by the International Water Association Task Group. Actual respiration rate of the sludge in the aeration tanks, as well as the endogenous and maximum respiration rates are variables that indicate the rate of BOD removal and aeration requirements. The maximum respiration rate is also closely linked to the Critical Oxygen Concentration point, that is, the point at which diffusion over the...

  • Determination of water-soluble forms of inorganic cations in soils, clays, peat, wastewater silt, activated sludge, and bottom sediments

INTRODUCTION The content of water-soluble forms of inorganic cations (ammonium, potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium) is one of the substantial characteristics in agrochemical, land reclamation, and sanitary assessments of soils (arable, hayland, pasturable, forest nursery soils). The cation balance should be controlled during ecological soil monitoring for the human activity impact assessment.

  • Waste water respirometry solutions for toxicity tracking

If toxicity is identified in a mixed sewage entering a treatment works, the problem for the plant manager is to track and identify the source of the toxicity. This can be done by sampling the effluent stream at various points in its length. By working in a logical sequence back up the sewer network the number of samples can be minimised. This type of testing should be rigorously enforced for new product introduction by a waste producer, as well as sampling the effluents directly at source. The samples would be...

  • Removal of organic compounds & toxity for wastewater treatment industry

Federal and State regulatory agencies are increasingly requiring additional water quality testing and controls of the toxicity of discharges to receiving streams. Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) helps meet these pollution regulations. If organic chemicals have been identified as contributing to discharge toxicity, Calgon Carbon Corporation can work with facilities, and their engineering firms, to help meet stringent criteria associated with their NPDES permit. GAC can be employed as a cost-effective treatment for...

  • Fat, Oil and Grease treatment

Industrial and municipal waste contaminated with fat – a frequent problem for companies maintaining wastewater network infrastructure and municipal wastewater treatment facilities. We recommend the use of GREASOLUX fat dissolvent cartridges to avoid the problems of pipeline chocking, equipment damage, offensive odors, formation of filamentous bacteria, poor wastewater treatment results, poor sedimental properties of activated sludge. GREASOLUX – is a cartridge that slowly dissolves in water, enriched...

TDA Aerator diffuser can be used in aerobe and an-aerobe phase of (waste-) water treatment(wwtp) at all sort of industries. Ideal for biological treatment aeration and reliable for the treatment of industrial wastewater or sewage water. the perforated surface of the membrane sleeve makes tube diffusers a perfect solution for all types of chambers and applications. The exhalation of air through the bottom grooves decreases the depositing of activated sludge underneath the ventilation which means less cleaning...

  • Real-time Control System for Wastewater Treatment Plants

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) are subject to large variation in flow and load, not to speak of uncertainties on the composition of the incoming wastewater. On top of that, the activated sludge treatment process, as used by the vast majority of treatment plants, is difficult to control due to the complex behaviour of the biological process. Nevertheless WWTPs are run 24/7, with operators and management challenged to meet ever tightening environmental regulations. In order to meet the operational demands of...

  • Waste water respirometry solutions for toxicity based consents

Water companies, water authorities or publicly-owned treatment works (POTW) need to have some knowledge of the composition of the wastes they it receive. In addition to testing for ammonia and BOD or COD levels, treatment works can license industrial discharges on the basis of concentrations of some of the known toxic compounds. However, it is recognised that very many non-regulated toxic materials still enter the treatment works and reduce the efficiency of biodegradation, and may cause toxic shock. The way is...

Liquid/solid separation equipment for steel and manufacturing

Coke Wastewater Treatment: Heating coal over 1100 Co in the absence of oxygen produces metallurgical coke. This process provides both heat and carbon (coke) required for iron production. During this process the volatile materials contained in the coal are driven off, leaving coke as the product. Gas produced by coking is withdrawn by means of blowers to recover energy-rich byproducts, including methane. Ammonia stills are the principal means of recovery. Recycled scrubber water is used as a coolant. Scrubber...
